Advanced Training Program for Maritime Instructors and Administrators from MET Institutions 2021 Held Online

On October 22, the opening of Advanced Training Program for Maritime Instructors and Administrators from MET Institutions 2021 was held online successfully. Prof. Shi Xin, Vice President of SMU, attended the opening ceremony and delivered a speech. A total of more than 200 foreign trainees from maritime institutes in Bangladesh, Bulgaria, Croatia, the Philippines, Ghana, Pakistan, Romania, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Turkey, Ukraine and other countries participated in the training.


Prof. Shi Xin delivered a welcome speech on behalf of SMU. He introduced the development history and current situation of SMU, and clarified that the purpose of this advanced training course is to improve the quality of global maritime education and promote the development of the global shipping industry by exchanging advanced practical experience in maritime education. He hoped that each trainee could learn more about the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification, and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW Convention) from this training, make better use of the theories of maritime education and grasp the new trend of maritime education more accurately, jointly promoting the development of global maritime education.


Sponsored by the Shanghai Municipal Education Commission, co-organized by SMU and the International Maritime Lecturers Association (IMLA), the training program will last until November 5th.


Since 2018, with the support of the Shanghai Municipal Education Commission, SMU has continued to build the Advanced Training Program for Maritime Instructors and Administrators from MET Institutions a brand program. The training program aims to provide a professional maritime education exchange platform for global participants and promote high-quality and sustainable development of global maritime education and training.


In the three-week training program, lecturers from SMU will fully demonstrate the international online courses construction, online teaching technology and other measures that can help maritime education cope with the impact of COVID-19 pandemic. Several senior maritime lecturers from IMLA will also offer lectures for this training program.
