The Sino-US Cultural Exchange Scholarship has been set up by the Chinese Government to welcome more US students to study in China. This scholarship aims to increase Sino-US exchange and cooperation in the field of education and to strengthen dialogue between the youth of the two countries.

Award details

?  Exemption from tuition fee

?  On-campus accommodation

?  Living stipend (Undergraduate students 2500 RMB/month, Masters students 3000 RMB/month, Doctorate students 3500 RMB/month)

?  Medical Insurance (800 RMB/person/year)

Eligibility

Applicants should be:

?  American citizens in good health

?  High school graduates under the age of 25 when applying for undergraduate programs

?  Bachelor’s degree holders under the age of 35 when applying for master’s programs

?  Master’s degree holders under the age of 40 when applying for doctoral programs

Applicants should not be:

?  Registered student in Chinese universities at the time of application or be a graduate from Chinese universities

?  In receipt of a scholarship or any other category from the Chinese government

Application documents:

?  Chinese Government Scholarship Application form for International Students with a recent photo.

?  Degree certificate, diploma or official proof of expected graduation (the diploma or certificate must be in Chinese or English with official school stamps or a notarized version in Chinese or English).

?  Related transcripts (the original must be in Chinese or English with official stamps).

?  Language certificate: For Chinese-taught programs, applicants should hold HSK 4 certificateor above. (If applicants' academic performance meets the program's requirement, but do not hold an HSK certificate, they should attend one year of pre-degree language course before starting their degree program)

?  Copy of passportbio-data.

Applicants applying for master's or Ph.D. program should also hold the following documents:

?  Recommendation letters: Two recommendation letters from an Associate Professor/ Professors (in English); For doctoral applicants they MUST have one recommendation letter from the prospective SMU supervisor they wish to research under and the other recommendation from their previous university; Applicants are to ONLY use SMU’s Recommendation Letter Form for International Student Applicants (see attachment)；Scholarship applicants should upload the completed forms on the website and attach the original copy when mailing the documents; 

?  Certificate of attestation issued from your school; Applicants are to ONLY use SMU’s Certificate of Attestation for International Students form (refer to attached instruction below); 

?  Statement of purpose - around 1000 words for master’s degree candidates, whiles doctoral candidates are to write around 1500 words. Topics to cover study and work experience, academic research results, planned research proposals, and personal development objectives after graduation;

?  Catalogue and abstracts of published papers, as well as other documents that can prove academic ability;

?  Medical examination report.
