From October 15th to 17th, the International Association of Maritime Universities Conference 13th Annual General Assembly was held in St. John's, Newfoundland, Canada. Prof. Yu Shicheng, Chairman of SMU University Council and another 3 members from SMU attended the conference. The conference was organized by Fisheries and Marine Institute of Memorial University of Newfoundland.
The theme of this conference is Expanding Frontier: Challenges and Opportunities in Maritime Education and Training. More than 100 experts and scholars from various maritime colleges and universities in 30 different countries attended the conference and exchanged opinions with each other.
On the morning of October 16th, Prof. Yu Shicheng, Chairman of SMU University Council delivered a speech themed on the Revised STCW Convention and Code adopted at the Manila Conference and responses of SMU, which was widely accepted on the Presidents’ Forum of Maritime College and Universities.
During the conference, Prof. Yu Shicheng also had an in-depth discussion with other leaders from maritime college and universities on the potentials for future co operations. Furthermore, He paid a visit to the teaching and training facilities such as the Marine Simulation Center in Memorial University of Newfoundland.
