Japanese Navigation Expert Lectured for Merchant Marine College Students
2011-11-3

On November 2, Capt. Hiroyoshi Takahama, a Japanese inland sea pilot and Chief Engineer Shiraishi Masaki from Mitsui OSK Lines gave a lecture entitled Seafarers with World Vision at the NYK Hall of SMU. More than 300 students from Merchant Marine College of SMU attended the lecture.

Mr. Hiroyoshi Takahama, with more than 40 years working experiences, once worked as the captain of a supertanker. He used simple but profound words explain the structure, operation and marine management to the students. Firstly he made emphasis on the premise that Seafarers should be people-oriented with his own experience. He firmly believed that Seafarers should show respect to people’ life and also have reverence toward nature. Then he encouraged the students to develop the spirit of adventure. At last, he shared with the students his motto that only by breaking the barrier inside can we find the new world.
