SMU Signs a Strategic Cooperation Agreement with Seaspan Corporation

On September 19th, Prof. Yu Shicheng, President of SMU gave a visit to the headquarters of Seaspan Corporation, Vancouver, Canada and met with the Mr. Wang Yougui, President of the corporation who studied at SMU between 1979-1983. They signed a school-enterprise strategic cooperation agreement.

Mr. Wang had introduced to Prof. Yu Shicheng, President of SMU his experiences of establishing his own company and the development of the corporation.

Seaspan Corporation is an association of Canadian companies primarily involved in coastal and deep sea transportation, bunkering, and ship repair and shipbuilding services in Western North America. In addition to the marine transportation services offered directly through Seaspan Corporation, commercial ferry, shipyard and bunkering services are provided via affiliate companies. The scope of Seaspan's services, the quality of its employees and over a century of successful participation in coastal commerce, make the company a major partner in the economy of the Pacific Northwest.

During the conversation, both sides had a discussion on strengthening communication and cooperation. A school-enterprise strategic cooperation agreement was signed to establish a long-term cooperation relationship between two sides. At present, SMU will train 20 students major in Marine Engineering and Marine electronics and electrics for Seaspan Corporation specifically. Mr. Wang also expressed that he was willing to provide convenience and financial assistance for SMU.
