SMU and AASTMT Signed Memorandum of Understanding
On June 11, the signing ceremony of Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between SMU and AASTMT (Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport) was held in Alexandria, Egypt. Prof. Huang Youfang, President of SMU, and Mr. Iamail Abdel Ghafar Ismail, Dean of AASTMT, jointly signed the MOU. Other guests invited in the ceremony include Mr. Chen Xiaoming, Consul-General of China in Alexandria, Egypt, and Mr. Gamal Ghalwash, Vice Dean of AASTMT. According to the MOU, the two sides would cooperate in many fields, such as teachers and students exchange, academic research, organizing workshops and so on.
During the visit, Prof. Huang Youfang was warmly welcomed by Mr. Iamail Abdel Ghafar Ismail and Mr. Gamal Ghalwash. They had an in-depth discussion on implementing the cooperative programs. Accompanied by Mr. Gamal Ghalwash, Prof. Huang Youfang also visited the ship handling simulator, LNG simulator, crisis management laboratory, sea survival center and other facilities at AASTMT.
AASTMT was founded with the donation of Arab League in 1972, recruiting students from the 22 member countries of Arab League. It’s headquartered in Alexandria, Egypt, with branch campuses in Cairo, Aswan, Jordan and so on. AASTMT consists of College of Maritime Transport & Technology, College of Engineering & Technology, College of Management & Technology, College of International Transport & Logistics, College of Fisheries Technology & Aquaculture and the other 3 colleges, with 17,000 full-time undergraduates and 7,000 postgraduates at present.
