SMU 2014 Graduation Ceremony Held
On the afternoon of June 27, 2014 SMU Graduation Ceremony was held at the school gymnasium. The Graduation Ceremony began with the melody Those Flowers. Heads of the university, including Prof. Huang Youfang, Prof. Kong Fancun, Prof. Jin Yongxing, Mr. Xiao Baojia, Ms. Men Yanping and Mr. Wang Haiwei, heads of colleges and departments, teacher representatives, and all the 2014 graduates and parents attended the ceremony. Prof. Kong Fancun, Vice President of SMU, hosted the ceremony.
Prof. Huang Youfang, President of SMU, addressed the ceremony. He expressed his warm congratulations and best wishes to the 2014 graduates who had successfully finished school and would set foot on a new start. “You become more mature with more wisdom and confidence after 4 years of study in SMU. You have left your footprints in SMU. At present, the shipping industry is in a key stage of transition and innovation. Given that, more opportunities should be found. Moreover, with Shanghai Free Trade Zone being founded, graduates of SMU would have better development prospects,” he said. He also encouraged graduates to go beyond themselves constantly both in work and in life with optimistic attitude and firm belief.
Prof. Wang Xuefeng, representative of the teachers from College of Transport &Communications, encouraged the graduates to keep learning all life and make new achievements in his speech.
Ding Xiaoshuang, representative of the students from Class 102, College of Ocean Science and Engineering, gave a speech, reviewing the 4 years of life in SMU and extending gratitude to teachers, schoolmates and SMU.
Graduates presented the university a scroll named Root, drawn with the 2014 graduates’ handprints. Root signifies that no matter where the graduates go, their root lies in SMU.
During the ceremony, 184 students who were awarded the Shanghai Outstanding Graduates were conferred the degree certificates on the stage.
