Renowned Expert in International Logistics and Supply Chain Management Prof. Martin Christopher Lectured in SMU
2014-12-23
During December 5 to 7, Prof. Martin Christopher, Chairman of Centre for Logistics and Supply Chain Management of Cranfield University, gave lectures “Logistics & Supply Chain Management” to EMBA students.

As the creator of Supply Chain Competition Theory, Prof. Christopher brought his new research this time. He believed production-driven supply chain was bound to turn into market-driven supply chain as the market turmoil aggravated, which meant that demand-driven supply chain management was required. According to Prof. Christopher, agility & responsiveness were the basic requirements.

This lecture attracted many alumni to come, as well as Mr. Fritz Hire Augustus Pinnock, Executive Director of Caribbean Maritime Institute, Jamaica. Prof. Huang Youfang, President of SMU, conferred the Letter of Appointment as SMU Guest Professor to Prof. Martin Christopher.

Having been at the forefront of the research in logistics and supply chain management for over thirty years, Prof. Christopher is a renowned expert in international logistics and supply chain management, and his academic views are widely cited. Prof. Christopher is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Marketing, the Chartered Institute of Logistics & Transport and the Chartered Institute of Purchasing & Supply. Having won awards including the Sir Robert Lawrence medal of the Institute of Logistics & Transport and the Distinguished Service Award of the USA Council for Supply Chain Management Professionals, in 2007 he was also designated as Foundation Professor by the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply.

With Prof. Christopher being the last renowned expert in the “Sailing” master plan launched by SAIIS (Shanghai Advanced Institute of International Shipping) in 2014, his lectures marks the success of this plan in 2014. This plan aims to build a top teaching team for EMBA programme by inviting dozens of famous experts at home and from abroad, including Yu Mingyang, Pan Guoling, Lang Xianping, Yu Jingzhong, Sun Lijian and Wayne K. Talley, to lecture in SAIIS.
