SMU Successfully Held International Symposium on Maritime Education and Training
In response to the theme of IMO World Maritime Day 2015, SMU and the International Maritime Lecturers Association (IMLA) jointly held a special event, “International Symposium on Maritime Education and Training (MET)”, themed on “NEW NORMAL, NEW MET” from 26 to 27 May on SMU campus. The symposium attracted over 200 attendees, including representatives from home and abroad as well as SUM faculty and students.
Prof. Jin Yongxing, Chairman of SMU University Council and Chairman of IMLA, and Mr. Chang Fuzhi, Deputy Director of Shanghai Maritime Safety Administration, delivered the opening speeches respectively. Mr. Clive Cole, Honorary Secretary of IMLA presided over the symposium.
Prof. Nakazawa Takeshi, Secretary of International Association of Maritime University (IAMU), Mr. Mei Dequan, Vice General Manager of China Shipping International Ship Management Co., Ltd., Mr. Xu Yunping, Vice General Manager of Shanghai Ocean Shipping Co., Ltd., Mr. Jan van der Borght, Representative of Port of Antwerp in China, Prof. Tomasz Tarasiuk, Gdynia Maritime University (GMU), Poland, gave their keynote speeches separately.
During the symposium, there was also an event named “Sailors into Classroom”, in which students were grouped to compete with other teams. Finally, the wining team was selected out and Prof. Nakazawa Takeshi, together with Associate Professor Chen Yuli of Merchant Marine College of SMU issued the prizes to the team.
