On May 30, Mr. Eirikur Bjoern Bjoergvinsson, Mayor of Akureyri, Mr. Matthias Roegnvaldsson, President of the City Council of Akureyri and other fifteen people visited SMU. Mr. Huang Youfang met with the guests. Officers from related departments attended the meeting.
Mr .Huang Youfang sent sincere welcome to Mr. Eirikur Bjoern Bjoergvinsson and his delegation for their coming on Dragon Boat Festival in China. He briefly introduced the overview of SMU. He said that SMU was a multidisciplinary university characterized as shipping, logistics and marine. The implement of strategy like the construction of Shanghai International Shipping Center, China (Shanghai) Pilot Free Trade Zone, and “The Belt and Road” provided SMU with good developing chances. SMU would keep close connection with related institutions and units from home and abroad to promote the development of Chinese shipping and logistics industry. Mr. Huang Youfang said that SMU paid a high attention on polar research work, especially on arctic navigation research. Till now, SMU has sent teachers to do science and research several times. SMU was very willing to cooperate with Iceland on polar research, and to promote shipping cooperation between Iceland and Shanghai.
Mr. Eirikur Bjoern Bjoergvinsson was grateful for Mr. Huang Youfang’s reception. He said that he had a further understanding of SMU through this visit, and he was willing to have cooperation with SMU on education, polar research and other aspects.
