The Second International Conference on Intelligence Science Held at SMU
2017-11-6

The Second International Conference on Intelligent Science (ICIS2017) themed on "Development and Application of Intelligence Science" was held in Shanghai from October 25 to 27. More than 200 experts and industry leaders in the field of intelligence science at home and abroad gathered in Lingang.

Mr. Huang Youfang, President of Shanghai Maritime University expressed at the opening ceremony that the application of artificial intelligence technology was extensive with the rapid development of modern science and technology. Shanghai Maritime University was characterized by shipping, logistics and marine. In recent years, SMU has been committed to the discipline construction of information and intelligence and supported by all sectors of society, which contributed a lot to the development of intelligence science in Shanghai and Lingang. The goal of SMU was to build a high-level maritime university with global influence. In this process, artificial intelligence technology would play an important role.

Mr. Michael I. Jordan, Professor from University of California, Berkeley pointed out that artificial intelligence could solve certain problems, but human creativity was unique which was difficult for artificial intelligence systems to achieve. Therefore, artificial intelligence should bring more useful value to future human society rather than anxiety.

The conference also organized reports exchange to promote academic exchanges between experts and young scholars. More than 80 reports were received by the conference and 43 of them were adopted. Authors and experts from seven countries have conducted in-depth discussions and exchanges on academic issues of intelligence science.

The conference is sponsored by Chinese Association for Artificial Intelligence, China branch of the International Information Research Society, undertook by Shanghai Maritime University and Shanghai Institute of Noetic Sciences.
