One International Student of SMU Won Award in the Shanghai International Students Poetry Reciting Contest
2017-12-19

Recently, 2017 Shanghai International Students Poetry Riciting Contest– “Meaningful Poetry, Song of Friendship”, was held in Youth Palace of Yangpu District. Du Wenkang, one undergraduate student from Pakistan, participated in the competition on behalf of SMU and won the prize of the most popular contestant.

 

Du Wenkang recited Su Shi's famous poetry: Charm of a Maiden Singer. His wonderful recitation won warm applause from the audience and left a deep impression on the judges. He eventually won the prize of the most popular contestant.

 

Du Wenkang said, he is very honored to study in the metropolis of Shanghai during the period when Chinese government launched the global economic policy of “Belt and Road”. At the eve of the contest, teachers from College of International Education of SMU guided him to conceive, record and rehearse repeatedly. Cheerleading students from other countries came to the scene to encourage him. He was proud of the friendship between the people of China and Pakistan, as well as his choice to study in China.

 

The event was guided by the Party Committee of Shanghai Municipal Education and Health Commission, Shanghai Municipal Education Commission and Shanghai Municipal Language Commission. It was jointly held by Shanghai Municipal Language Measuring Center, Shanghai Education Press Group, and the International Cultural Exchange School of Fudan University. Since it was carried out in July, it has attracted nearly 200 foreign students from 19 universities to participate in the competition. On the basis of extensive publicity carried out in colleges and universities and preliminary selection, a total of 97 programs entered municipal network quarter-final. According to statistics, nearly 100 thousand teachers, students and international friends have paid attention to and participated in the vote of the municipal network quarter-final. Finally, the 18 programs performed by 34 foreign students from 16 colleges and universities entered the final.
