Publishing a Chinese Context Paper in Top Management Journals: Reflections from a Recent AMJ Experience
2016-10-19

Lecturer:Sun Pei, Professor, Fudan University

Time: 10:10am-11:40am, Oct.19th, 2016

Venue: Room 335, School of Economics & Management

Abstract:

In this seminar, I would like to use a recent experience of my successful submission to the Academy Journal of Management– Sun, Hu, & Hillman (2016), THE DARK SIDE OF BOARD POLITICAL CAPITAL:ENABLING BLOCKHOLDER RENT APPROPRIATION–to reflect on how to publish a Chinese context paper in top management journals. Specially, my reflections will range from research design, to theory and hypotheses development, to collaboration with co-authors, and to the management of the whole submission, review, and revision process. Particular emphasis will be placed on the challenges of linking the Chinese context to “mainstream” management theories, with the plausible claim of making novel and solid theoretical contributions.
