2017 Chinese Government Scholarship Programs

In order to increase the cooperation and understanding between the people of China and other countries, develop outstanding international talent and improve the perception of China's higher education, Shanghai Maritime University (SMU) is opening application for full-time studies under the 2017 Chinese government scholarship program.

In order to facilitate the implementation of the Chinese Government Scholarship, the following detailed implementation has been issued in accordance with the “Chinese Government Scholarship Application Method”.


1.
CGS categories:

The CGS is divided into two categories:

Program Category Type A generally refers to scholarship programs responsible by authorities other than Chinese universities. Applicants of Type A programs are requested to fill in the ‘Agency Number’ of above mentioned agencies (e.g. Chinese Embassy in your country). Applications of Type A will be reviewed by these agencies.

Program Category Type B: generally refers to scholarship programs responsible by Chinese universities under CGS-Chinese University Program. Applicants of Type B programs are requested to fill in the ‘Agency Number’ of above mentioned universities. Applications of Type B will be reviewed by these universities.


2. Application Deadline
: 30 April, 2017


3. Eligibility

3.1 Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens and in good health;

3.2 Applicants should be a high school graduate under the age of 25 when applying for undergraduate programs;

    Applicants should be a bachelor’s degree holder under the age of 35 when applying for master’s programs;

    Applicants should be a master’s degree holder under the age of 40 when applying for doctoral programs;

    Applicants should be under the age of 45 and have completed at least two years of undergraduate study when applying for general scholar programs;

   Applicants should be a master’s degree holder or an associate professor (or above) under the age of 50 when applying for  senior scholar programs.

3.3 Applicants must not be a student of Chinese University at the time of application;

3.4 Applicants should not be holding scholarship of any other category from Chinese government.


4. Award details

4.1 Exempt from tuition fee,

4.2 On- campus accommodation,

4.3 Living stipend (Masters Students :3000RMB/month, Doctorate Students: 3500RMB/month)

4.4 Outpatient medical fee (the outpatient expense in the University’s hospital or the hospitals appointed by the University) and Chinese Government Scholarship Foreign Students Medical Insurance (800RMB/person/year).

5.How to apply

5.1Program Category Type A

Step 1: Consult the program introduction and decide majorgs to apply; (for more details, please visit the university website: www.shmtu.edu.cn or CSC website: www.csc.edu.cn )

Step 2: Consult the dispatching authorities for overseas study (usually Chinese consulate or embassy in your home country) for the details and requirements of Bilateral Program; got The Award Letter for Chinese Government Scholarship;

Step 3: Once recommended by the dispatching authorities, candidates shall contact their target university for (Conditional) Admission Letter. Please go to www.csc.edu.cn/laihua or www.campuschina.org and click Application Online for International Students, complete the required information, submit the completed Application Form for Chinese Government Scholarship online and print a hard copy.

Step 4: A package of complete application documents with (Conditional) Admission Letter must be submitted to the dispatching authorities in their home countries before the deadline.

Step 5: CSC will send, before July 31st, the List of Scholarship Winners, Admission Letter and Visa Application Form for Study in China (JW201) to the Chinese Embassy (Consulate General), who will forward the documents to the dispatching authorities for overseas study or the scholarship winners.

5.2 Program Category Type B: generally refers to scholarship programs responsible by Chinese universities under CGS-Chinese University Program. Applicants of Type B programs are requested to fill in the ‘Agency Number’ of above mentioned universities. Applications of Type B will be reviewed by these universities.

Step 1: Consult the program introduction and decide majors to apply; (for more details, please visit the university website: www.shmtu.edu.cn)

Step 2: fill the Chinese Government Scholarship Application Form and SMU application form, and prepare all the required documents;

Step 3: send the photocopy of all required documents to  iec@shmtu.edu.cnfirst, and then deliver the original documents to SMU campus. (Those documents would not be returned to students);

Step 4: SMU will decide the final candidate and issue Offer of Admission to admitted students directly at the end of June.

The Agency number of SMU is 10254.

6. Required documents

6.1 Application Form for Chinese Government Scholarship (in Chinese or English);

6.2 Notarized highest diploma (photocopy): Prospective diploma winners must submit official proof of student status by their current school. Documents in languages other than Chinese or English must be attached with notarized Chinese or English translations.

6.3 Academic transcripts: Transcripts in languages other than Chinese or English must be attached with notarized Chinese or English translations.

6.4 A Study Plan or Research Proposal in Chinese or English. (A minimum of 200 words for undergraduates, 500 words for non-degree students, and 800 words for postgraduates.)

6.5 Recommendation letters: Applicants for graduate programs or senior scholar programs must submit two letters of recommendation in Chinese or English from professors or associate professors.

6.6 Applicants under the age of 18 should submit the valid documents of their legal guardians in China.

6.7 Applicants planning to stay in China for more than 6 months must submit a photocopy of the Foreigner Physical Examination Form completed in English (the original copy should be kept by the applicant. The form designed by the Chinese quarantine authority can be downloaded from http://www.csc.edu.cn/laihua or http://www.campuschina.org ). The physical examinations must cover all the items listed in the Foreigner Physical Examination Form. Incomplete records or those without the signature of the attending physician, the official stamp of the hospital or a sealed photograph of the applicants are invalid. Please select the appropriate time to take physical examination as the result is valid for only 6 months.

6.8 Applicants with Admission Letter from designated universities should enclose the letter in the application package.

6.9 Applicants with valid language Certificate should enclose it in the application package.

NOTE: The above documents should be bound on top left corner (in duplicate). No application documents will be returned.
