In late May, 5 student representatives led by Prof. Shi Chaojian, Dean of SMU Merchant Marine College were invited to attend the 1st International Mermaid Congress held in Istanbul, Turkey. The Congress invited altogether 44 maritime educational institutions from 22 countries of the world. I
nternational Mermaid Congress is planned to be held annually with this year being its first launch. The Congress learned and exchanged such topics as the maritime education and training, shipbuilding and marine engineering, marine management and administration, marine environmental problems and also discussed issues of how to absorb more outstanding young seamen to engage in maritime transportation.
Prof. Shi Chaojian acted as chairman for the workshop of Maritime Education and Training. SMU students presented their own views on various issues such as How to Guarantee Crew’s Interest. They established friendship with students of maritime universities of different countries.
