From April 23 to April 25, on the invitation of Mr. Torben Skaanild, Secretary General of the Baltic and International Maritime Council, Prof. Huang Youfang, President of SMU, attended the Annual Meeting of BIMCO 2012 in Singapore.
The theme of the annual meeting was Shipping Innovation. The representatives present at the meeting shared with each other how to embrace the market challenges and uncertainties. They also had an in-depth discussion on ways to innovate concepts and technologies so as to help the shipping industry bottom out and move towards recovery.
On the afternoon of April 24, Mr. Yudhuishthir Khatau, President of BIMCO and Mr. Torben Skaanild had a friendly conversation with Prof. Huang Youfang. Prof. Huang extended his sincere gratitude to BIMCO’s continuous supports to SMU and expressed his expectation to further enhance the mutual understanding and cooperation between the two sides.
During the meeting, Prof. Huang Youfang also met with Mr. Robert Lorenz-Meyer, Past President of BIMCO, Mr. D. W. Chard, Head of Legal and Documentary of the International Chamber of Shipping, Mr. Sun Licheng, President of the China Classification Society, Mr. Yang Liangyi, a renowned expert in maritime law and several other representatives.
Founded in 1905, BIMCO is one of the world's largest shipping organizations. The BIMCO and the SMU have cooperated in a number of fields, namely sharing information, training personnel and developing shipping curriculums since 2009 when the two sides signed a strategic cooperative partnership agreement.
