On August 29th, Mr. Ole Sohn, Minister for the Danish Ministry of Business and Growth, and Mr. Michael Dithmer, Permanent Secretary for the Danish Ministry of Business and Growth paid a visit to SMU accompanied by Mr. Friis Arne Petersenthe, Ambassador of Denmark to China and Mr. Karsten Ankj?r Jensen, Consul General of the Royal Danish Consulate General in Shanghai. Guests also included Mr. Andreas Nordseth, Director General for the Danish Maritime Authority, Mr. Uffe Steiner Jensen, Chairman of Danish Ports, Mr. Peter Bjerregaard, CEO of the Danish Shipowner's Association, and Mr. Peter Borup, Senior Vice President Of Denmark NORDEN Shipping Co. Ltd. Prof. Yu Shicheng, President of SMU University Council, Prof. Jin Yongxing, Vice President of SMU, and directors from other relevant offices and colleges gave the guests a warm reception.
Prof. Yu Shicheng delivered a welcome speech. He expressed that Denmark has a long history of shipping. He hoped that Mr. Ole Sohn’s visit to SMU could enhance his understanding of SMU and facilitate the cooperation between relative Danish colleges and SMU.
Minister Ole Sohn also said that SMU was a prestigious maritime education university with an outstanding teaching quality. Further more, many of the delegation members were practitioners in Danish shipping industry; they hoped to know more about the status quo of Chinese shipping education so as to promote their mutual cooperation and communication.
During the visit, Minister Ole Sohn visited the Marine Simulator and SMU-Norden Moot Court accompanied by Prof. Yu Shicheng and Prof. Jin Yongxing. Minister Ole Sohn also met with some teachers and students of SMU.
