On June 4, Prof. Huang Youfang, President of SMU met with Mr. Jeffrey R. Immelt, Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of the U.S.-Based Conglomerate General Electric (GE), Mr. Wei Jiafu, Chairman of the Board and Secretary of Party Committee of China Ocean Shipping (Group) Company (COSCO Group) and Mr. Li Shaode, Chairman of the Board and Party Secretary of China Shipping (Group) Company (China Shipping) in Beijing.
During the meeting, Prof. Huang Youfang expressed that SMU highly valued the exchanges and cooperation with enterprises. Not long ago, SMU and GE signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), co-founding China’s first Electric Propulsion & Automatic Control System Laboratory; SMU had kept a long and close Industry-University-Institute partnership with the first-class enterprises such as COSCO Group and China Shipping. So he sincerely hoped that each side could explore advantages and join together for win-win cooperation.
Besides, Prof. Huang Youfang discussed with Mr. Jeffrey R. Immelt on the issues of the future development, opportunities and collaboration of China Shipping and Ocean Engineering, and exchanged views on further strengthening the university-enterprise cooperation.
