Prof. Michael Florian from University of Montreal Appointed as Guest Professor of SMU

On November 26, Prof. Michael Florian’s Guest Professor Appointment Ceremony was held at Academic Hall of College of Transport & Communications, SMU. Prof. Michael Florian is an honorary professor in Computer Science and Operations Research from University of Montreal. Prof. Jin Yongxing, Vice President of SMU, heads from College of Transport & Communications and about 200 teachers and students attended the ceremony.

Prof. Jin Yongxing conferred the letter of appointment to Prof. Michael Florian.

Afterwards, Prof. Michael Florian gave a lecture entitled A Model and Method for Distance-based Tolls Modeling.

Prof. Michael Florian is an internationally well-known expert in traffic system. He has served as a consultant for more than 80 transportation system planning organizations in Canada, the United States, Europe and some Asian countries, and has participated in dozens of traffic consulting projects worldwide. He was elected a Member of the Academy of Science of the Royal Society of Canada in 1990 and won Canada Computer Pioneer IBM Award in 2005. Prof. Michael Florian is an Honorary Prof. of Computer Science and Operations Research of University of Montreal, and he is also CEO of INRO Consultants, the company which develops EMME/2,Emme 3,Stan and Dynameq.
