On December 4, Mr. Andreas Loverdos, Minister of Education and Religious Affairs of Greece, accompanied by Mr. Vassilios Costis, the Greek Ambassador to China, Dr. Evegenios Dimitrios Kalpyris, Consul-General of Greece in Shanghai, and relevant heads from the Ministry of Education of China and Shanghai Municipal Education Committee, visited SMU. Other guests were Mr. Athanasios Kyriazis, the Greek Secretary-General for Education and Religious Affairs, Mr. A. Polydoropoulou, Vice President of University of the Aegean and the other relevant heads. Prof. Huang Youfang, President of SMU, and Prof. Jin Yongxing, Vice President of SMU, warmly welcomed the guests.
Prof. Huang Youfang extended thanks and welcome to Mr. Andreas Loverdos for his visit. He said, “SMU is a university characterized by shipping technology and management, aiming to cultivate high-level talents for shipping industry at home and abroad. Greece, as a major shipping country, plays a significant role in shipping industry in the world. SMU’s cooperation with Costamare Inc. and University of the Aegean has laid a solid foundation. I believe the visit of Mr. Andreas Loverdos will promote the communication and cooperation between SMU and Greek universities and institutions and advance the educational advantages and resources sharing between China and Greece.”
Mr. Andreas Loverdos thanked SMU for the warm welcome. He said the leaders of the two countries had reached a consensus on educational exchanges and cooperation between the two sides and Greece attached great significance to the communication and cooperation with Chinese educational institutes. He introduced the aim of his visit, saying that “action speaks louder than words”, hoping Greek universities to carry out more extensive cooperation with SMU in such field as academic exchanges and cooperation in research, student exchanges, communication in language & culture disciplines, etc.
During the meeting, Prof. Jin Yongxing briefed the cooperation between SMU and its counterparts in Greece, hoping to give full play of the complementary advantages and deepen cooperation in every field.
Mr. A. Kyriazis, Mr. A. Polydoropoulou, Mr. Kazazis Ioannis, Chairman of the Greek Language Center and Mr. E. Kapetanakis, President of Technological Educational Institution of Crtete also gave speeches.
During the visit, accompanied by Prof. Huang Youfang and Prof. Jin Yongxing, Mr. Andreas Loverdos paid a visit to the COSTAMARE Engine Room Integrated Laboratory and the Marine Simulator.
