Jeremy Penn, CEO of Baltic Exchange and Guest Professor of SMU, with another four colleagues paid a recent visit to SUM. Professor Jin Yongxing, Chairman of SMU University Council, together with Head of College of Transport and Communications met with the visitors.
Prof. Jin extended his warm welcome to Mr Penn’s another visit to SMU and gave Mr Penn an introduction of SMU’s latest development. Prof. Jin expressed that the Baltic Exchange, as an international shipping exchange, plays an important role in the international maritime community, and the BDI it issues is regarded as a barometer of the international dry bulk shipping market. And Prof. Jin mentioned that the teaching and research institutes of SMU also focus on the study of shipping market and that he is looking forward to closer cooperation between the two parties.
Mr Penn showed his desire for the cooperation between Baltic Exchange and SMU and hoped that more SMU graduates could join in the Baltic Exchange.
After the meeting, Mr Penn gave a thematic lecture to students from College of Transport & Communications .
