At the end of June, SMU received about 70 international students who came to attend the 4th International Students Summer School & the 2nd African Summer Program. On the morning of June 29th, the two programs were officially launched.

Prof. Shi Chaojian, Dean of International Education College delivered a welcoming speech. He, first of all, extended his warm welcome to international students from different countries and regions. Then he said that although one month is quite short, it is still a good chance for them to explore Chinese culture, get acquainted with Chinese society and broaden their own vision. At last, Prof. Shi expressed his hope that during this one-month program, international students could acquire knowledge, make new friends and find promising opportunities for their future.

Josh from University of Plymouth, Britain and Leonie from Ghana as student representatives made their speech.

The year of 2015 is the 2nd year that SUM has been authorized by Shanghai Municipal Education Commission to launch African Summer Program and also the 4th year that SUM has cooperated with University of Plymouth in terms of summer programs. Both programs will last one month during which international students will be taught Chinese and given themed lectures on Chinese culture and traditions, Chinese economy, Chinese social and legal systems and so on. All the lessons and lectures will be given by SMU professors. Plus the classes, international students will experience rich cultural activities.
