On June 27th, Mr. Andrew Winbow, Assistant Secretary-General and Director, Maritime Safety Division, International Maritime Organization, came to visit SMU. Prof. Jin Yongxing, Chairman of SMU University Council, together with heads of International Office and Merchant Marine College met with the guests.
Prof. Jin Yongxing gave Mr. Andrew a brief introduction of SMU. And he mentioned that as a member of IMLA, SMU plays an active role in the association and that the model course Maritime English, submitted by SMU has passed IMO’s review and obtained its approval. In addition, Prof. Jin Yongxing exchanged ideas with Mr. Winbow concerning SMU and IMLA’s further participation in IMO.
Mr. Winbow expressed that he was very happy to visit SMU and he appreciated the progress made in talent training by SMU. What’s more, he recognized SMU’s contributions to maritime education as well as training and consulting in the field.
During the visit, Mr. Winbow also visited the teaching facilities of SMU such as the Maritime Simulation Center, the Engine Room Integrated Laboratory and spoke highly of SMU’s teaching facilities.
