2015 Shanghai Summer School—African Program Completed Successfully

On the afternoon of July 24th, the closing ceremony of Shanghai Summer School—African Program was held at the hall of International Education College, SMU. Prof. Jin Yongxing, Chairman of SMU University Council together with Director of SMU International Office attended the ceremony.

Prof. Jin Yongxing first extended his thanks to all the students for their recognition of and support for the program and then gave his congratulation on their graduation. Prof. Jin also showed his wish that all the students could further their studies at SMU in the future. At last, he issued 3S certificates to 17 students.

In the section to show teaching results, African students performed Chinese songs, plays, African songs and dances and so on. Therefore, the ceremony came to an end in a warm and joyful atmosphere.

2015 Shanghai Summer School—African Program lasted from June 28th to July 24th, for 4 weeks. And the program is sponsored by Shanghai Education Commission and organized by SMU. The year of 2015 is the second year that SMU has organized the program. And the program attracts 17 students in total. They come from such countries as Ghana, Tanzania, Djibouti and Egypt.

The curriculum design for the 2015 African Program features shipping, logistics and maritime, all of which fully demonstrate SMU’s advantages. Meanwhile, other classes are designed for students to experience Chinese language, Chinese national culture and Shanghai’s regional culture. All the classes help international students to deepen their knowledge of Chinese culture, to grasp a general knowledge of Chinese shipping industry, to learn basic Chinese language and to know more about Shanghai.
