Prof. Huang Youfang, President of SMU, together with other delegates, visited Gdynia Maritime University (GMU) and Technical University of Ostrava (TUO) from September 17th to 21st, and signed cooperative agreements with the two universities.
During the visit to GMU, Prof. Huang Youfang and other delegates were warmly welcomed by the University Council consisting of Mr. Piotr Jedrzejiowicz, President of GMU, Prof. Janusz Mindykowski, D Sc. Eng. Miroslaw Czechowski, and Prof. Hernyk Sniegocki, three Vice Presidents of GMU as well as another four Deans. Prof. Huang Youfang visited the teaching and research facilities as well as the training ship of GMU. As representatives of two parties, Prof. Huang Youfang and Mr. Piotr Jedrzejiowicz signed a cooperative agreement and had an in-depth talk about intensifying the bilateral cooperation.
GMU was established in 1920. As the largest maritime university in Poland, GMU has four colleges of Navigation, Marine Engineering, Marine Electrical Engineering and Shipping Management. At present, GMU has more than 8000 students. As the first sister university abroad of SMU, GMU has been keeping its partnership with SMU for 31 years. The two universities have achieved fruitful cooperative results in scientific research and academic exchanges.
Prof. Huang Youfang, President of SMU and other delegates visited Technical University of Ostrava On September 21st and got warm reception from President Ivo Vondrak and Vice President Jaromir Gottvald of TUO. Prof. Huang Youfang and his delegation also visited the teaching and research facilities of TUO and signed a cooperative agreement with President Piotr Jedrzejowicz of TUO. The two parties exchanged experience on the development of disciplines, such as Mechanics, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Materials. Afterwards, the two parties also exchanged ideas about the undergraduate’s and graduate’s discipline development and the education internationalization.
TUO, ranking the top four in Czech Republic and now one of the oldest universities in Europe, was founded in 1849. TUO has a total of about 22,000 students and consists of the seven faculties, namely, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, Economics and Safety Engineering, Civil Engineering, Mining and Geology as well as Metallurgy and Material Engineering. TUO was also the first university in Czech Republic that established partnership with SMU.
