2015 Annual Conference of China Institute of Navigation Held at SMU

The 2015 annual conference of China Institute of Navigation (CIN) was held at SMU from Oct 14 to 15. Over 200 representatives from provincial and municipal institutes of navigation and from professional committees of CIN present at the conference. 

Prof. Huang Youfang, President of SMU, delivered a speech at the opening ceremony and he, on behalf of SMU, extended sincere gratitude to the present organizations at all levels for their concern and support for SMU over the years. Prof. Huang Youfang showed that in recent years, SMU has built up such agents as Shanghai International Shipping Institute, Asian Cruise Academy, Shanghai Advanced Institute of International Shipping and China Institute of FTZ Supply Chain to train professional talent and offer professional service. Besides, SMU has made substantial progress in terms of teaching, scientific research, student training, social service, admission & employment and education internationalization. Especially, SMU has gained rapid developments in shipping, logistics and maritime fields. At present, when national policies like “One Road and One Belt” and “Yangtze River Economic Zone” exert great influence on nautical education and its relevant disciplines, SMU is eager to make joint efforts with navigation associations to build the brand of Chinese nautical education, which will surely help improve China’s competition in oceans, inherit and promote China’s ancient nautical culture, carry out historical mission, accelerate talent training, and make contributions to the national shipping industry and to the construction of Shanghai International Shipping Center.

Mr. Xu Zuyuan, Board Chairman of CIN in his speech, showed that the annual conference is held for the purpose of forging academic participation and progress and building a strong academic atmosphere. And Mr. Xu pointed out that CIN aims at shifting the academic focus to prospering navigation industry and serving national strategy of “One Road and One Belt” and “Maritime Power”. In addition, Mr. Xu indicated that we shall continue to promote rigorous academic atmosphere and fine academic ethnics and to foster positive and relaxed academic ecology. Finally, Mr. Xu issued medals to the first winners of Science & Technology Award for Chinese Youth of CIN.

At the closing ceremony, Mr. Xiao Jiabao, Vice President of SMU delivered a speech and said that SMU hosting the annual conference which attracts hundreds of maritime elites, will also have profound effects on SMU. And he hoped that SMU could continue to get support from the attendees in terms of teaching and scientific researches and especially of nautical education. 

At this annual conference, 76 papers were awarded as Excellent Paper, of which 1 paper won first prize; 2 papers second prize; 6 papers third prize. 35 papers were discussed separately at 3 parallel sessions.
