Sponsored by IMRF (International Maritime Rescue Federation) Asia-Pacific Regional Center, Asia-Pacific Mass Rescue Operation Training Course & Tabletop Exercise was co-held by SMU, East China Sea Rescue Bureau under the Ministry of Transport and International Maritime Lecturers Association (IMLA), from December 1st to 3rd. Over 60 trainees from about 20 Asia-Pacific countries and regions attended the training course.
Mr. Zhang Jianxin, Deputy Director of Rescue Bureau under the Ministry of Transport, David Jardine-Smith, Secretary of IMRF, and Prof. Jin Yongxing, Chairman of SMU University Council and Honorary Chair of IMLA (International Maritime Lecturers' Association) attended the opening ceremony of the training course.
Mr. Zhang Jianxin and Prof. Jin Yongxing delivered their speeches. They extented welcome to every student and hoped that this training course could help relevant countries and regions get familiar with requirements and skills for massive maritime rescue and improve their abilities to conduct maritime rescue.
After 3 days of intense study, the training course was completed on the 3rd of December. Prof. Jin Yongxing, Mr Zhang Rongjun and Mr. David Jardine-Smith issued course-completion certificates to students.
This is the first time that such training course was held in Asia-Pacific areas. And this training course aimed to support IMO global maritime search & rescue plan and the effective implement of international maritime agreement and instructions in Asia-Pacific areas. In addition, this training course was also organized to help relevant countries and regions’ maritime rescue bureaus prepare better for massive maritime rescue, improve their overall abilities to cope with massive rescue and promote development of Asia-Pacific maritime rescue.
