On December 7th, Prof.Ahmed C. Bawa, Vice-Chancellor and Principal of the Durban University of Technology (DUT) with his delegation visited Shanghai Maritime University(SMU). Prof. Jin Yongxing, Chairman of SMU University Council, together with Heads of International Office and International Education College received the delegation.
Prof. Jin Yongxing warmly welcome the delegation and briefed the guests on the overview of SMU. He highlighted that SMU is strong in disciplines such as shipping, logistics and marine materials and that SMU has rich experiences in maritime education and training. SMU is willing to conduct cooperation with DUT on shipping talents training. He hoped that both parties could accelerate negotiation processes and start the cooperation program as soon as possible.
Prof.Ahmed C. Bawa briefed on the developments of DUT. And then he mentioned that South Africa is sparing no efforts to develop ocean economy, Durban, as the largest port of South Africa, urging for talents in shipping and logistic. He looks forward to the cooperation between the two parties.
Afterwards, Prof. Jin Yongxing and Prof. Ahmed C. Bawa, on behalf of the universities, signed the cooperation agreement. According to the agreement, SMU and DUT will cooperate on scientific research, exchange of students and teachers, etc.
