The Granting Ceremony for Port of Antwerp Maritime Awards Held at SMU

On June 29, the granting ceremony for port of Antwerp maritime awards was held at SMU. Prof. Jin Yongxing, Chairman of SMU University Council, together with Prof. Marc Van Peel, Deputy Mayor of Antwerp, issued awards to the four winners and their supervisors from Scientific Research Academy.

Prof. Marc Van Peel, Deputy Mayor of Antwerp, gave a lecture, themed on “The Flexibility of Port Management” to the students and teachers of SMU. In his lecture, he introduced the overview of Antwerp Port and the cooperation with China; he took the container vessel and liquid bulk carrier as an example in order to present the flexible strategies for the changing markets in the course of port management.    

SMU signed the cooperation agreement with Antwerp Port Authority in 2015. It was agreed that Antwerp Port Authority decided to set up the Maritime Excellent Paper Award at SMU; each year, it will award four excellent postgraduate students and each of them will obtain 500 Euros.
