A few days ago, the 12th SMU-NORDEN Scholarship Award Ceremony was successfully held. Present at the ceremony were nearly 60 attendees, including Mr. Jakob Bergholdt, Vice President of NORDEN, stuff at NORDEN Shanghai Representative Office, Mr. Shi Xin, Vice President of SMU, and representatives of students and teachers.
Prof. Shi Xin delivered a speech, sending sincere thanks to the 12-year support which NORDEN gave to SMU. He said that NORDEN scholarships and research grants encouraged SMU students and teachers to work hard and devote themselves to shipping industry. He hoped that students who got the scholarship could work harder to make contribution to the development of shipping industry.

After that, Mr. Jakob Bergholdt, together with Mr. Shi Xin , issued certificate of honor to the winners. Students who got the 2016 NORDEN scholarship were junior students Zou Ruitong, Li Lu, Wang Shengyi, Tan Licheng, Chang Yongmeng, each of them could have 15,000 yuan. Mr.Hu Qinyou from Merchant Marine College and Mr. Chen Wangli from College of Transport & Communications received “NORDEN Best Teacher Award”, both of them could have 8,000 yuan.
NORDEN was founded in 1871, making it one of Denmark’s oldest internationally operating shipping companies ant it has strong dry bulk cargo ships and tanker fleets. In 2005, NORDEN decided to carry out scholarship plan in SMU, and set up “NORDEN Scholarship” and “NORDEN Best Teacher Award”. NORDEN Scholarship is awarded every year to junior students who have excellent performance on shipping related major, aiming at encouraging students achieve greater progress in academic aspect. 5 students can achieve that scholarship each year. While “NORDEN Best Teacher Award” is for top teachers who have outstanding performance in teaching, researching and professional ethics and who chosen by students, aiming at encouraging teachers to get better achievement on teaching and researching. Each year, 2 teachers can have this grant.
