Prof. Jin Yongxing Attended the Opening Ceremony of IMO Regional Training Course on the Assessment and Examination of Seafarers

From 24^th to 28^th, April, IMO regional training course on the assessment and examination of seafarers was held in Shanghai. More than 50 students and representatives from maritime systems in China, Malaysia, Korea, Burma, Indonesia, Vietnam, and Singapore took part in this training course. Attended the opening ceremony were Prof. Jin Yongxing, Chairman of SMU University Council, Mr. Chang Fuzhi, Inspector of Shanghai Maritime Safety Administration, Mr. Milhar Fuazudeen, Director of IMO seafarers office, Mr. Ma Hongqi, Director of Pu dong District Municipal Commission of Commerce Shipping Service Center and Ms. Gao Lingling, Director of Shanghai Pu dong District Shipping Development Promoting Center.

Prof. Jin Yongxing, as the representative of SMU, delivered a welcome speech. He said, SMU, as an important membership of maritime education and training, paid highly attention on participating in international maritime affairs and accumulated precious experiences. In 2016, IMO officially announced that SMU would be the organizer of MTCC, Asia; SMU expected more and more attention and participation to several activities of MTCC, Asia. SMU would do the best to support the training program, hoping students could have full communication and friendships with each other. Finally, he wished that the training could achieve a great success.

Mr. Milhar Fuazudeen gave a general introduction of the origin and meaning of this training course, making training staffs fully realize the importance of this training.

Mr. Chang Fuzhi introduced the situation of assessment and examination of seafarers that China Maritime Association carried, action and effect that positively perform STCW convention. He hoped this training could be a chance to develop further cooperation and exchange on assessment and examination of seafarers for maritime agencies– in –charge in Asia.

This training aimed at renewing related knowledge of assessors of IMO Asian Members, examinations and assessment of seafarers in agencies-in-charge, so as to improve the ability to carry out STCW. At the mean time, it can promote cooperation of several countries to carry out conventions and experience exchange, helping understand each other and develop together. The training lasted for a week, and IMO experts and consultants would give lessons.
