On themorning of June 5, the 2017 World Transport Convention was held at the China NationalConvention Center. Wan Gang, Vice-chairman of the CPPCC, President of the ChinaAssociation for Science and Technology, Minister of the Ministry of Science andTechnology of the PRC, attended the meeting and delivered a speech. Prof. HuangYoufang, President of the Shanghai Maritime University, Chairman of the ChinaAssociation of Navigation, and Vice-chairman of the Organizing Committee of theConvention attended the convention together with over 30 faculties and graduatestudents from related disciplines like communications and transport, navigation,logistics and so on.
Six partsof events were included in 2017 World Transport Convention: the openingceremony and keynote speeches, academic forums, expositions, activitiesconcerning the Belt and Road (International) Transportation Union, the 2017 Bridge Design Competition for College Students, specialactivities and others. It was directed by the Ministry of Transport, theChinese Academy of Engineering, the National Railway Administration, the CivilAviation Administration of China, the China Railway Corporation, undertook by theChinese Highway and Transportation Society and assisted by the China Instituteof Navigation and others.
Shanghai MaritimeUniversity was the academic support unit of the convention. Teachers of relatedcollege from SMU participated in the seminars and academic exchanges.
Theconference also arranged 220 academic exchanges with about 1,300 reports ofvarious characteristics being made. More than 5,000 experts and scholars in thefield of communications and transportation shared their views on hotspots likethe interconnection of "Belt and Road" traffic, the high-speed railwaytechnology, the future traffic, the improvement of world’s long-span bridges, theintelligent transportation, the sharing economy, green travel, as well as thedeveloping trend of cutting-edge technologies.
