On June 21, the first SMU & Port of Antwerp Port Innovation Seminar was held in SMU. Zhu Boyan, General Representative of Belgium Antwerp Port Authority to China, Sophie Opel, marketing specialist from Antwerp Port, Rachel Kellett, General manger of Ahlers China, and Jin Yongxing, Chairman of the SMU Council attended the seminar. Other participants included heads from related colleges & functional departments and student representatives of SMU.
Mr. Jin delivered a welcome speech, appreciating the long-term support of the Antwerp Port Authority to SMU. He also said that the two parties’ cooperation is being gradually deepened. The Port of Antwerp has a good exploration of port innovation and has accumulated some experience. He hoped that both parties would strengthen cooperation in the field of innovation in the future. He introduced SMU's innovation and research development, encouraging students to study hard, pay attention to accumulation and have the courage to explore and innovate.
Mr. Zhu said in his speech that Maritime Technology Cooperation Center(MTCC)’ s settlement in SMU indicated that SMU has become China's knowledge center in maritime field, as well as an ideal place for innovation. It was hoped that this seminar would enable more young people to learn about innovation and join the ranks of innovation.
Subsequently, the guests including Sophie Opel, Rachel Kellett, Lei Min and Professor Yin Ming from SMU, respectively, elaborated innovation from the perspectives of port, logistics companies, manufacturers and universities. They also interacted with students afterwards.
At the seminar, Jin Yongxing, Chairman of the SMU Council and Zhu Boyan, General Representative of Belgium Antwerp Port Authority to China also issued awards to the 4 postgraduates who won the second session of the Antwerp Harbor Maritime Excellent Paper and 5 authors who won the Port Innovation Forum Excellent Paper.
