2017 Annual Meeting of SMU Hong Kong Alumni Association and the Signing Ceremony of Shanghai-Hong Kong Marine Academic Cooperation Plan were Held

On August 14, 2017 Annual Meeting of SMU Hong Kong Alumni Association and the Signing Ceremony of Shanghai-Hong Kong Marine Academic Cooperation Plan were Held. Prof. Huang Youfang, President of SMU, J. P. Chen Fan, Secretary for Transport and Housing Bureau of the Government of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region(SAR), Prof. Mathieson, President of the University of Hong Kong (HKU) and other heads from related fields gathered together with 140 Hong Kong alumni to celebrate 2017 Annual Meeting of SMU Hong Kong Alumni Association.


At the Annual Meeting, the Secretary Chen Fan, President Huang Youfang and President Mathieson signed the Agreement on the HKU-SMU Academic Cooperation Program (Cooperation Plan) on behalf of Hong Kong SAR Government, SMU and HKU respectively.


At the same time, Hong Kong Shipowners Association (HKSOA) and Shanghai International Shipping Research Center jointly established "Shanghai-Hong Kong International Maritime Research Center".
Ms. Sandy Chen, Managing Director of HKSOA and Mr. Zhen Hong, Secretary General of Shanghai International Shipping Institute signed the MOU. The two parties hoped to use the "Research Center" as a cooperation platform to strengthen the research, training and exchanges in shipping, port and related areas between Shanghai and Hong Kong, and jointly promote the development of China's shipping industry.


J. P. Chen Fan said in his speech that
the Cooperation Plan is an important milestone in the training of maritime talents between Shanghai and Hong Kong. He believed the cooperation would lay a good foundation for the sustainable development of shipping industry.


In the end, President Huang Youfang made a speech entitled "Sail the Ocean and Re-create Brilliant Prospect". He said that alumni were schools’ most valuable resources and wealth; alumni's success meant the alma mater's greatest success and alumni’s influence represented the school's influence. For years, SMU has attached great importance to alumni and actively created various platforms for alumni to communicate and develop. He hoped SMU alumni in Hong Kong could inherit the SMU tradition, bear in mind the motto of "Be loyal, faithful, honest and respectful" and make more contribution to SMU and Hong Kong.
