Recently, SMU International Students Football Team triumphed as the overall winner of the SYBCOL National Day Inter-Universities Football Competition amongst 8 universities comprising of Tongji University, Shanghai Maritime University, University of Shanghai for Science and Technology, Donghua University, Shanghai International Studies University, Fudan University, Jiaotong University and Shanghai Ocean University.
On that day, Team SMU looked to be on top form, and they had the confidence to match. Even the light rains could not dampen the enthusiasm of the teams, who were all determined to be crowned champions. They powered through the tournament, and during the finals came from a goal down in the second half to equalize with just three minutes to spare. The game eventually went to penalties, and Team SMU won on penalty kicks.
It was a well-deserved victory. Team SMU trains three times a week, and it shows in both their fitness and team spirit on the field. The coach, Atimu Louis, and team captain, Che Kingsley, did a marvelous job in leading the team to success. The attitude of the players both on and off the pitch was also great and they proved themselves to be fine representatives of the school.
SYBCOL is a trade and investment consultancy firm offering services to individuals, businesses and non-government agencies that have interest in Africa. It organises Football Competitions every year to facilitate communication and develop friendship among international students in Shanghai.
