On the afternoon of December 5, the forum between Shanghai Maritime University - Transport and Housing Bureau of Hong Kong was held in Shanghai. Mr. Chan Fan, Secretary for Transport and Housing Bureau of Hong Kong, Mr. Wang Shifa, Deputy Director of Hong Kong Marine Department, Dr. Byron Lee, Chairman of Hong Kong Sea Transport and Logistics Association, Mr. Wang Dechao, President of Institute of Seatransport, Prof. Huang Youfang, President of Shanghai Maritime University, Prof. Shi Xin, Vice President of Shanghai Maritime University and Prof. Yu Shicheng, Director of Shanghai International Shipping Institute (SISI) attended the forum.
President Huang Youfang said that in the general environment of urban transformation, port restructuring and shipping industry transformation, Shanghai Maritime University aims to maintain its leading position in the field of modern shipping technology and services, logistics and supply chain. In particular, he emphasized SMU's contribution in serving China's major strategies and fully affirmed the authority of Hong Kong to participate in the formulation of international rules and regulations around the world and the discourse to participate in the international shipping and supply chain. He believes that Shanghai and Hong Kong are highly complementary in terms of shipping and global supply chain. He hoped that both sides would conduct more intensive cooperation in personnel training, system research and internationalization in the future.
Vice President Shi Xin introduced the history, discipline construction and international cooperation of SMU. He also talked about SMU’s contribution in serving the national strategy and boosting the cooperation between Shanghai and Hong Kong. He emphasized the prominent features of SMU in the fields of shipping, logistics and ocean. He also pointed out SMU’s leading position in shipping, international logistics research and other fields.
Ms. Zhang Jieshu, Deputy Secretary General of SISI, introduced the development, major functions and recent works of SISI. She also briefed the collaborations with Hong Kong Polytechnic University and Hong Kong Shipowners Association in recent years.
Secretary Chan Fan agreed with the view of President Huang Youfang and spoke highly of the achievements of SMU. He hoped to take this opportunity to promote cooperation between SMU and Hong Kong in international logistics, port construction and the shipping development of Yangtze River Delta.
Deputy Director Wang Shifa spoke highly of the contribution made by SMU in the national port and shipping industry. He pointed out the current needs of the Hong Kong Marine Department in port management training and hoped to cooperate with SMU in this aspect.
During the talks, the two sides also held active discussions on issues such as maritime arbitration, risks and challenges in the port and shipping industries, shipping demand, the development of shipping enterprises, resources sharing, the Belt and Road, etc.
