In order to promote the cross-strait maritime science & technology and academic exchanges, recently, Prof. Huang Youfang, President of SMU and Chairman of China Institute of Navigation(CIN), headed a delegation to NTOU and attended the 2018 Cross-Strait Seminar on Maritime Safety and Vessel Traffic Management organized by NTOU and Taiwan China Marine Industry Association. During his stay, he also visited Taiwan International Ports Corporation (TIPC) and Port of Keelung. Related persons from the Merchant Marine College, Xu Beihong Fine Arts School, President's Office and Secretariat of CIN accompanied together.
In the discussion with Prof. Zhang Qingfeng, Prof. Huang Youfang stated that SMU is a university with the characteristic disciplines of shipping, logistics and ocean. NTOU, under the leadership of President Zhang Qingfeng, has developed rapidly into a globally renowned maritime university in recent years. He hoped that through this in-depth exchange, SMU, CIN, NTOU and Taiwan China Ocean Institute could have closer cooperation in future. Prof. Zhang Qingfeng, Board Chairman of Taiwan China Marine Industry Association, President of NTOU, pointed out that SMU has distinct characteristics in the fields of shipping and logistics with outstanding academic influence. In the past, there have been many substantial cooperation between the two universities in student internships, student exchanges, and teacher exchanges. He hoped this seminar could promote closer academic cooperation and exchange between SMU and NTOU to develop vigorously and sustainably in the areas of marine and maritime education, talent cultivation and technology research.
At the Seminar, Prof. Huang Youfang introduced the outstanding progress of SMU in shipping, logistics and other fields. Prof. Xiao Yingjie, Dean of the Merchant Marine College, made a keynote speech of Research on Navigation Status in the South China Sea, which was highly appreciated by all participants.
During his stay, accompanied by Prof. Zhang Qingfeng, Prof. Huang Youfang also visited TIPC and Port of Keelung and discussed with representatives of the shipping industry on cross-strait shipping logistics, free trade zone, port cities development, smart shipping, shipping security, maritime personnel training, etc. It is hoped that through in-depth exchanges, a cooperation platform could be established to assist the cross-strait shipping development.
