Recently, the Times Higher Education Asia University Rankings 2018 was announced. This year’s table ranks over 350 universities from 25 countries/regions. SMU ranked 63rd among the universities listed on the table in Mainland China. This is also the first time that SMU was short-listed in the table.
Tsinghua University and Peking University ranked 2nd and 3rd respectively. There is also success for Hong Kong, which has three universities in the top 10, more than any other territory, and six universities in the top 60.
In calculating the top universities in Asia, the Asia University Rankings 2018 used the same 13 performance indicators as the The World University Rankings, but they are recalibrated to reflect the attributes of Asia’s institutions.
The universities are judged across all of their core missions – teaching(25%), research(30%), citations(30%), Industry Income(7.5%) and international outlook(7.5%) – to provide the most comprehensive and balanced comparisons available.
“SMU’s focus is on shipping technology, economics and management, however it is a multi-disciplinary university with faculties covering engineering, management, economics, law, liberal arts and science. It is one of China’s best universities for maritime, shipping and transport studies.”
The Times Higher Education World University Rankings, founded in 2004, provide the definitive list of the world's best universities, evaluated across teaching, research, international outlook, reputation and more. THE’s data are trusted by governments and universities and are a vital resource for students, helping them choose where to study.
