Liepaja Marine College (LMC), is a major and oldest player of maritime training and education in Latvia, just like Shanghai Maritime University (SMU) in China. Both institutions have a lot of things in common such as training standard and course plan due to STCW convention and code, which is a good foundation for student exchange and cooperative research.
In the light of cooperation between Merchant Marine College of Shanghai Maritime University(MMC SMU) and Liepaja Marine College (Latvia) first cooperation agreement signed in 2015, Erasmus+ programme funds have been received for staff exchange between institutions in 2016.
At the end of 2016 Liepaja Marine College’s Director Mr. Vladimirs Dreimanis and Erasmus+ coordinator Ms. Jekaterina Zalomova visited MMC SMU for first time and established first personal contact.
Mr. Dreimanis read the course of lectures on topic: Celestial Navigation and Ms. Zalomova had experience exchange with International office and administrative personnel.
At the end of 2017 two lecturers Mr. Zeng Xiangming and Mr.Shi Chaojian visited Liepaja Marine College, Latvia, where read lectures on Ship Energy Efficiency Management and held workshop on Ship Handling topic.
During the stay in LMC MMC SMU professors have chances for the experience and cultural exchange with top level administrative and academic staff and familiarization and comparison of institution curriculum, cooperation course determination. Possibilities of future cooperation and activities have also been discussed and explored:
·Exchange of students with International Class Program of SMU and English Teaching Program of LMC,
·Joining sea phase training on board training ships of SMU
·Staff exchange between LMC and SMU
·Cooperation in setting up new courses such as cyber safety for maritime transportation and modernization of facilities of maritime education and training.
From March 27th till April 04th representatives of Liepaja Marine College visited SMU MMC for professional trainings, took informative familarization course on BRM, introduction of organization of basic safety training and simulating sea conditions, how to carry out marine research within Laboratories. As the result of meetings familarisation and comparison of institution curriculum, future cooperation course determination between institutions have been finalized.
Both institutions determined to establish deeper cooperation in future as development of exchange program for students and teachers both in LMC and SMU.

Project objective:
Building networks and closer links between the partner institutions, which, in turn, will promote the exchange of knowledge, experiences and new teaching methods, providing an opportunity to improve the quality of the study programs in the partner educational institutions, as well as contribute to the possibility of development of joint international training programs or other events in future.
