May 15th, 2017, delegated by IMO, Maritime Technology Cooperation Center for Asia(MTCC-Asia) was established in Shanghai Maritime University. Over the past one year, MTCC-Asia focused on increasing ship energy efficiency and awareness of green shipping, helping more than 30 Asian coastal countries that involved in the Belt and Road to develop their green shipping, building the first branch office in Cambodia , propelling the innovation and development on the technology of ship energy efficiency、management and standardization, providing technical support for IMO in the fields of ship fuel data collection and Ship energy efficiency improvement. Besides, we organized the International exchange and training program for maritime government officers and aimed to promote the cooperation among China, IMO and Asian Maritime Society.
Under the lead of director Jin yongxing and deputy Shi xin, with the support from Ministry of Transport of the People’s Republic of China, Shanghai Municipal Transportation Commission, Shanghai Municipal Education Commission and various leaders of Shanghai Maritime University, MTCC-Asia fulfilled many tough tasks and gained many praise.
The countries served by MTCC-Asia are mainly in Asia. In the Belt and Road, altogether 30 Asian coastal countries devoted to it. In 2017’s Chinese the Belt and Road international summit, MTCC-Asia was listed as the main contributor. In October, it was listed into Shanghai the Belt and Road bridgehead special action plan.
MTCC-Asia not only amplified Shanghai’s influence as a serving brand for green shipping development but also deepened the interaction of shipping industry between China and the whole world. The resources acquired by China will have profound significance for the regional and global shipping industry development in the next 6 to 10 years.
In retrospect, despite some success, we don’t have any codified experience and faced with many hardships. To achieve the grand goal of perfect this center, we must exert ourselves and collaborate with governments.
