On May 16, SMU held the 10th International Day, which attracted hundreds of overseas students from more than 40 countries to display their traditional and ethnic culture.
During the event, international students of SMU showed their talents. Students from Belgium, Cameroon and other countries performed traditional dances with different ethnic characteristics, and international students from Shanghai Ocean University and Shanghai Dian Ji university also brought us wonderful performances.
Mr RuanWei, Dean of International Education College of SMU said that the International Day is not only a simple overseas student’s activity, but also a “mirror” of foreign exchanges, reflecting the flourishing development of foreign exchanges during these years. Themed on “Windows to the World, Bridge for the Friendship”, SMU pays great attention on international education and international exchanges. The International Day shows the culture and customs of different countries to the teachers and students.
Since the early 1960s, SMU began to accept foreign students. At present, there are hundreds of international students from all over the world studying here each semester. The increase of international students number and the expansion of the field and majors they study have brought more in-depth integration of the Chinese and foreign cultures.
After ten years of continuous development, SMU has become a multicultural university. SMU has established exchanges and cooperation relationships with more than 80 universities abroad to conduct cooperative education, student exchanges and so on. While training local students to have an international perspective, SMU also cultivates excellent talents from all over the world. SMU is committed to establishing long-term, close cooperative relations with overseas universities, and attracting quality students to study in China. The continuous development and improvement of international programs of SMU build more and more “friendship bridges” with other universities in the world.
