From August 7 to 9, the 11th International Symposium on safety Science and Technology was successfully held at Shanghai Maritime University. The president of SMU, Huang Youfang attended the opening ceremony of the symposium and delivered a welcome speech. Former member of the NPC Standing Committee, former vice president of China Association for Science and Technology, professor of Beijing Institute of Technology Feng Changgen, president of Anyang Institute of Technology Jing Guoxun, vice president of Dalian University of Technology Bi Mingshu and other distinguished guests participated in this symposium. Nearly 254 scholars and experts from China and overseas attended this significant event.
President Huang said, “Safety is the footstone to keep the country stable,. We need to take full advantage of the high new technology and devote ourselves to the field of scientific research and technological innovation. SMU’s discipline of Safey Science and Engineering is characterized in shipping, logistics and ocean, severing for the ‘Belt and Road’ and ‘Marine Safety’ initiatives, aiming to fulfill the mission of ‘Safer Shipping，Cleaner Ocean’ proposed by IMO and training professional talents specialized in marine safety. This symposium is certain to deepen international exchanges, enhance the safety discipline development in China. SMU will also endeavor to perfect its safety discipline construction and establish influential majors, subjects and research bases.”
The International Symposium on Safety Science and Technology is held every two years, which has been successfully held for 11 sessions. The symposium has wide and significant influence in and outside China over the last 20 years. This symposium provided an international exchange platform for the multidimensional and profound development of safety discipline as well as increased SMU’s reputation worldwide. This symposium has gained positive responses from professors and young scholars of Tsinghua University, University of Science and Technology of China, East China University of Science and Technology, China University of Petroleum, Nanjing University of Science and Technology, Nanjing Tech University, and Jimei University.
