Lately, at the invitation of Georgia Maritime Safety Administration, Chairman of Shanghai Maritime University Council Jin Yongxing attended Georgia international maritime forum and took part in the round table discussion as a special guest. Mamuka Bakhtadze, President of Georgia presided over the opening ceremony of the forum.
Chairman Jin introduced the construction of MTCC Asia and its leading function as a major part of IMO’s marine environmental protection project in the field of applying greenhouse gas emission reduction technology.
Kitack Lim, Secretary-general of the International Maritime Organization said that, “IMO has authorized the preliminary strategy that subjected to international shipping greenhouse gas emission reduction in the first half of this year, which means the official start of this worldly undertaking. The shipping industry needs to have broader strategic dialogues and cooperation to promote its transformation and healthy development and so to support UN’s 2030 sustainable development plan. ” Lim also highly appreciated the support made by Chinese government and SMU.
On behalf of SMU, Chairman Jin signed the cooperation memorandum with President of Batumi State Maritime Academy. Jin said that Georgia and China shared a great partnership under the Belt and Road initiative and he sincerely looked forward to seeing more substantive cooperation between these two universities concerning students exchange, teachers communication and seamen training.
