SMU Organized the Ninth International Conference on Maritime Law

On October 29th, hosted by China Maritime Law Association, organized by Shanghai Maritime University, co-organized by the Supreme People’s Court of the People’s Republic of China, China Council for the Promotion of International Trade, China COSCO Shipping Cooperation and other influential organizations, the Ninth International Conference on Maritime Law opened in Shanghai. 

Vice president Yang welcomed all the guests on behalf of SMU. Yang said, “At present, China is fully implementing the Belt and Road Initiative as well as the Powerful Marine State Strategy, therefore we are highly in demand of shipping and legal talents. Over these years, SMU persist in developing its own characteristics, trained millions of professional talents and bridged great platforms for the education and cooperation of Chinese maritime law.

This conference has attracted nearly 350 participants. This year is the 40th anniversary of reform and opening up, the 30th anniversary of China Maritime Law Association and the 25th anniversary of Chinese Maritime Code. Being the largest international trading country and the third largest international shipping country, Chinese Maritime Code played an indispensable role in our country’s shipping industry.

The International Conference on Maritime Law is an international symposium hosted by China Maritime Law Association every 2 or 3 years. Since year 1994, it’s the fourth time to be held in Shanghai. The Ninth International Conference on Maritime Law this year encounters the revision of the Chinese Maritime Code and the opening of China International Import Exposition, so it’s of significant importance on opening wider to the outside world and accelerating relevant theories and researches.
