From December 3rd to 7th, the 100th Session of Maritime Safety Committee(MSC 100) was held in London and more than 170 member countries participated in this significant event. During the special program for celebration, delegations were first treated to the song composed by SMU that named“For a Better Future”.
Heike Deggim, Director of IMO’s Maritime Safety Division, introduced that “For a Better Future”was a song presented by SMU and IMLA to commemorate IMO’S 70th anniversary as well as the MSC 100th session. The song conveys strong will of SMU and IMLA to make dedication to the international shipping industry through maritime education.
The Maritime Safety Committee is IMO's most senior technical body on safety-related matters with 1-2 Committee Meetings each year. The member states have grown from the original 14 in 1959 to 174 at present.
“For a Better Future” echoed well with the 2018 World Maritime Day theme - “IMO 70: Our Heritage: Better Shipping for a Better Future". It’s a song for celebration, dream and inspiration, which aimed to rally more people to care about the ocean and create a brighter future for the shipping industry. Within a few months, this song has spread across the international maritime education sector.
“For a Better Future” was written by Pro.Zhang Yan from SMU College of Foreign Languages and composed by Shen Jingye from SMU Communist Youth League Committee. The choir is all from SMU students.
