On August 10, SMU Alumni Association (Singapore) Annual Conference 2019 was held at M hotel in Singapore. Song Baoru, Secretary of the CPC Shanghai Maritime University Committee, Kangkai, Education Counselor of the Embassy of PRC in Singapore, KATIE MEN, Vice President of SSA, Li Tengteng, Director of Zhoushan Commercial Representative Office in Singapore, Hu Nanzhou, Vice President of Maritime College of Singapore Institute of Technology, and representatives from Singapore Alumni Association of DMU, FUDAN, SJTU and JMU, as well as more than 100 alumni from fields of ports, shipping, logistics, etc. attended the meeting.
On behalf of SMU, Secretary Song Baoru thanked the last Singapore Alumni Association Council led by Yan Xiankai, congratulated the new session Council that will be led by Ding Wenjin, and issued the letters of appointment for the new Council.
In his speech, Secretary Song Baoru introduced the achievements of SMU in the fields of connotation construction and serving the national strategy. He said that many alumni of SMU strived in the international shipping center- Singapore, worked hard with solid knowledge, innovative style and tenacious character, and achieved remarkable success. He hopes that the new session of Singaporean Alumni Association can continue to build a platform to cohere with alumni and connect with SMU, making greater contributions to the economic development and cultural exchanges between China and Singapore. Song Baoru also warmly welcomed all Singaporean alumni attend the celebration of SMU’s 110th birthday on October 20 this year.
Counsellor Kangkai said in his speech that the SMU Singapore Alumni Association and the Singaporean alumni have bridged the economic and trade cooperation as well as cultural exchanges between China and Singapore, which has contributed to the shipping development and economic progress of them. He hoped that with the further development of the all-round cooperative partnership between Singapore and China, the SMU Singapore Alumni Association would make new contributions to the friendship between two countries.
Mr. Yan Xiankai, the former President of the Singapore Alumni Association, summarized the work and achievements in building the Unimex platform, cooperating for a win-win situation and contribution to the development of SMU, and expressed that he would continue to support the work of the Singapore Alumni Association as a Council Member.
Mr. Ding Wenjin, new President of the Singapore Alumni Association, said that Singapore Alumni Association has been committed to building bridges between new alumni and SMU as well as between graduates and the world. He hoped that the new Council, with the support of the alma mater and the new alumni, will carry out regular activities to enhance mutual exchanges, deepen integration and development as well as make the Singapore Alumni Association a warm home for new alumni.
Being officially registered in Singapore in November 2011, SMU Singapore Alumni Association currently has 370 members, with Mr. Ding Wenjin as current President, Mr. Hu Bin as the Secretary-General, and 15 Council members .
