From October 19 to 21, the 19th International Conference on Man-Machine-Environment System Engineering(MMESE) was held in Shanghai. 167 experts and scholars from domestic and foreign universities and research institutions attended the Conference. Focusing on the cutting-edge academic achievements of MMESE, the Conference provides a good platform for the industry to exchange ideas and experiences on MMESE.

Professor Chen Weijiong from SMU gave a report on the theory of Man-Machine-Environment System and highlighted the Man-Machine-Environment-Management Safety Culture (MMEMSC) model as well as its application to the navigation safety ergonomics.

The Conference received over 500 academic papers, 102 of which were collected into the Proceedings of MMESE: The19th International Conference on MMESE. Mr. Long Shengzhao, former Director of the Ergonomics Laboratory, Astronaut Center Of China, Mr. Wang Mingyang, former Chairman of the International Federation of Ergonomics (IEA) and experts and scholars from the industry attended the Conference.

The conference was co-organized by the Human-Machine-Environment System Engineering Committee of the Systems Engineering Society of China and SMU.

In 1981, under the guidance of Mr. Qian Xuesen, a Chinese aerospace engineer and cyberneticist who made significant contributions to the field of aerodynamics, the MMESE was established in China. MMESE is a kind of science and technology which studies the optimal combination of man-machine-environment system by using the systematic science theory and method to realize the goals of "safety, efficiency and economy".
