The International Maritime Instructors Training Program on Maritime Technology Development & Maritime Education in New Era was held in SMU

From Octobor 26th to 30th, the International Maritime Instructors Training Program on Maritime Technology Development & Maritime Education in New Era was held in SMU. Over 50 representitives of maritime institutes and maritime authorities from 14 countries attended this program through internet.

Mr. Shi Xin, Vice President of SMU, delivered the opening remarks. He said that intellegent shipping and green shipping are the main trends currently in the global industry. The continous changes have brought new demands to the world and new opportunies & challenges to maritime education. He also introduced the working experience of SMU in providing high-quality online teaching for students at home and abroad during the Covid-19 pandemic.

This program was funded by Shanghai Municipal Education Commission, hosted by SMU, and undertaken by the International Education College of SMU. The International Maritime Lecturers Association (IMLA) provides expert resources in maritime sector for this program. The program aims to present the development achievements of China’s maritime education to the countries along the routes of Belt and Road, sharing the practice experience and ideas of future development, which will promote the maritime education cooperation with the countries along the routes and promote SMU to be a high-level maritime university with global influence.

During the training, representatives of the International Association of Maritime Universities (IAMU) and relevant universities at home and abroad were invited to share the experience, and jointly discussed topics included the impact of the latest maritime technology and the development of international maritime conventions on maritime education, the latest practices in maritime education quality management, the future development strategy of maritime education and cooperation between maritime univerisities, providing effective countermeasures for crew education and training in the post-epidemic era.
