Training of Trainers and Maritime Inspectors in the Implementation of ILO MLC, 2006 was held at SMU

On November 23rd, hosted by China Maritime Safety Administration (MSA), International Labour Organization (ILO) and SMU, the Training of Trainers and Maritime Inspectors in the Implementation of ILO MLC, 2006 was held in SMU. Mr. Shi Xin, Vice President of SMU attended the opening ceremony and delivered a speech. Ms. Huang Qun, Senior Programme Officer of the ILO Country Office for China, Ms. Monica Rossi Rizzi, Senior Manager at ITCILO and Mr. Zhou Wei, Deputy Director of Department of Crew at China MSA made speeches respectively.

Mr. Shi Xin said that seafarers are key workers of international shipping industry. Due to the Covid-19, nearly 2 million seafarers’ works have been affected. The repatriation, shifts and comprehensive working conditions of the international crew members have become one of the most concerned issues of the international shipping industry. Therefore, further interpretation of ILO MLC, 2006 and effective implementation of the Convention in combination with epidemic control are important calls of the international shipping industry. The training program provides a platform for trainees from all over the world to analyze and discuss the ILO MLC, 2006, so as to jointly promoting the healthy development of the global shipping industry.

The training program was conducted online from November 23 to December 4 and lasted for two weeks. A total of 26 trainees from China, India, Malaysia, Myanmar, Vietnam and other countries participated in the training.
