On December 30th, the seventh session of the first MTCC Asia Steering Committee took place at SMU. Prof. Lu Jing, President of SMU, delivered a speech at the meeting. Mr. Wu Hongbing, Deputy Director-General of Shanghai Maritime Safety Administration (SMSA), Ms. Liang Congcong, Consultant of SMSA, Mr. Yu Bo, Deputy Director of Shanghai Municipal Transportation Commission (SMTC), Ms. Lu lili, Deputy Director of International Office of Shanghai Municipal Education Commission and representatives from COSCO Shipping, Shanghai International Shipping Group attended the meeting. Prof. Shi Xin, Vice President and Executive Director of MTCC Asia presided over the meeting.
Prof. Lu Jing said that, MTCC Asia has got strong support from Shanghai Municipal and the Committee Members since its establishment 3 years ago. It has made great achievements in building international maritime exchange platforms, promoting the construction of regional capacity building and the technology application. He hoped MTCC Asia would innovate cooperation modes and raise resources through multiple channels to further enhance the urban function and core competitiveness of Shanghai.
Prof. Shi Xin said COVID-19 hit the world with unprecedented impact. But MTCC Asia still actively explored and employed new working methods to keep the relevant mechanisms running effectively with IMO, European Commission and authorities from over 30 maritime countries. In 2021, MTCC Asia will continue to perform its duties well with the support from all parties in jointly promoting the development of international maritime technology.
Prof. Jin Yongxing, Director of MTCC Asia Council, made the work report and financial report of the center in 2020. Mr. Ruan Wei, Head of the center, made the work plan for 2021. During the meeting, the participants discussed topics on the cooperation with port and shipping enterprises, the promotion of China advanced maritime technology, the sustainable development and functional upgrades of the center, etc.
